PiCUS 3D Tomograms - a multiple scan technique

The most accurate way to get a 3 dimensional image of the internal structure of a tree is to “tomograph” the tree in several levels.

Apart from an attractive presentation of the measuring result, the information of this 3D image can be used to find the origin of decay in a tree:

If the extension of the decayed area becomes smaller in upper tomograms the decay is probably root related.

The handling of the 3D tool is very simple: At first all tomograms recorded on a tree are assembled by the software and a vertical cut through the tree is shown. The area between the measuring levels is colourized by an interpolation procedure. The distance between measuring levels should be set in accordance to the situation on the tree. Typically 25 cm to 50 cm should be used.

Another new function offers 3D view on the tree. The tree can be twisted and watched in ALL positions.
